Couples are assisted from a medical, psychological and human point of view all throughout this pathway.
Booking and admission
Access to services takes place following a reservation either in person or by the phone with an operator of the Admissions office.
Services can be booked:
- By patients
- By a general practitioner
- By a specialist
When making a reservation, patients are asked to bring previous clinical documents the day of the visit so to be consulted during diagnostic activities.
Once an appointment is set, a couple is called in for the first gynaecological visit with the specialists from the GENERA Reproductive Medicine Unit of the Valle Giulia Clinic in 1 – 3 weeks time.
During the first visit, after a thorough assessment of clinical history, previous diagnostic exams and any past MAP treatments, blood and instrumental tests are administered to complete the diagnostic pathway.
A pelvic ultrasound is also done to assess the patient’s uterus, adnexa and ovarian reserve.
Examination of tests
Once a couple has completed the required tests, they are kindly asked to come back. The purpose of this visit is to plan out the therapeutic pathway to be followed depending on the indication. It can be illustrated as described below:
- Sexual intercourse with low hormonal stimulation
- Intrauterine Insemination (level 1 technique)
- In-vitro fertilization (level 2 or 3 technique)
The procedure and the possible risks of the technique are then described. Any queries that a couple may have are answered and an informed consent is given once it is signed by the physician who interviewed the couple and by the head of the facility.
The personalised therapeutic protocol designed for the treatment is then explained.
All this is recorded in the couple’s medical record.
