OOCYTE RETRIEVAL

OOCYTE RETRIEVAL

The oocyte collection requires a short hospitalization and it is performed under ultrasound control, local anesthesia or neuroleptoanalgesia at the patient’s request or on medical indication.  An antibiotic prophylaxis is prescribed during this procedure. All the follicles present, within certain diameters (>16mm), are aspirated and the obtained follicular fluid is immediately checked in the laboratory for oocytes.

After the procedure, the patient is guided to her hospital room by auxiliary personnel where she will remain for at least 4 hours until release. During dismissal, the couple will have the opportunity to talk to a team doctor, who will inform them of the number of oocytes recovered, the possible treatment to be carried out in the days following the oocyte removal and will be available for any doubts. There is a 0.4% risk that the oocyte harvesting will result in the non-recovery of oocytes or the recovery of only immature or post-mature oocytes that cannot be used for insemination.
